Now that the weather is feeling like fall, one of my favorite things to do is take a day trip to North Georgia! One of my favorite memories from early in my relationship with my husband was a trip we took to view some of the Waterfalls! It was a beautiful crisp day! I don’t think I’ll ever forget it. So here are a few of my favorites!
Red Top Mountain State Park
If you really don’t have time to go anywhere from West Cobb, This is a great destination. Just minutes up the road in Acworth! They have Biking Trails, Boating and Fishing (license required), Hiking, Pickleball, and swimming!
It is convenient to several Historic Sites in the area so there are lots of options.
Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield National Park
This one is considered a day trip mainly because there are so many wonderful walking trails that you could spend the entire day walking and never even leave West Cobb! There are several loop trails ranging in distance from 2 to 16.2 miles. There is also a 1 mi trail to the top of Kennesaw Mountain and various east or west trails. This is another great activity if you can’t get away!
Merciers Orchards
From West Cobb it is about an hour and a half drive north on 575.
Established in 1943 Merciers Orchards is a great place to spend time walking through the orchard, maybe doing some fishing in the pond or touring the Winery, or Produce Market. They have a wonderful selection of apples and other farm fresh veggies, as well as other items produced on site.
Waterfall Day Trip
This one will require a bit more patience and time! North Georgia has some lovely Waterfalls that are worth the work required. Some of my favorite sites are Anna Ruby Falls in Unicoi State Park and High Shoals Falls, but as I am looking at the map there are so many more – Desoto Falls, Dukes Creek, Helton Creek, Hemlock, Raven Cliff . . . and more! Most are an easy trail walk to enjoy the beauty of the waterfall. I’ve linked one site that gives you some suggestions for taking on this Waterfall Day Trip adventure!
