It’s pretty incredible how much Cobb County has to offer! I put together this list of the best local tourist attractions you need to visit — even if you’ve lived here for decades:
• The Big Chicken
Ok, So this one is more of a Landmark than a tourist attraction, but you can’t visit Marietta without taking a drive past the Big Chicken. If you are in the mood for some KFC with added atmosphere, you have to check it out.
• Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park
Located North of Marietta at the base of Kennesaw Mountain is the Tourist Center and central location of what makes up the National Park. This area has trails through the areas where the Battle of Kennesaw was fought. There are also Picnic areas, equestrian riding trails, monuments and museums. This is a wonderful location for being in nature and considering the history of this area.
• Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History
For the Train lover, this museum originally opened in 1972 and showcased the General Locomotive which was involved in the Great Locomotive Chase which took place April 12, 1862, during the American Civil War. The museum has grown over the years and has several Featured Exhibits on Railroad and Industrial Machines.
Who doesn’t like a day at the water park? Well, maybe not in January, but May through September this 69 acre water park is a great place to take the kids and spend hour of fun in the water and sun.
The beautiful Marietta Square, with Glover Park as the center piece, is a place to Shop, Eat, Walk, see a show or Art Exhibit or just sit and enjoy the pulse of the moment. The park is often the site of concerts, Art and Craft Shows and on weekends a regular Farmers Market. It is also the place to be on the 4th of July, for the annual Fireworks display.
Let me know in the comments which you’re excited to visit (or if I missed one of your favorites).
