Before Covid, my family loved to go out to eat on Friday nights. Frankly, it was the highlight of my week not having to think about what I was going to feed the family, and getting to spend some time with good food in a fun environment.
Since Covid, I’m afraid we have gotten quite used to ordering in. Don’t get me wrong, we do venture out for a good bite (stay tuned to future blogs for more on some of the spots we have visited). But we are quite happy to bring the food in and eat around our own table, taking our time to enjoy without all the craziness of actually having to get out of the house.
As I started to consider which places I’d write about for this article, these favorite Take Out spots just kept coming to mind. So for your future culinary pleasure here are my families Top 3 Favorite Take Out spots (today).
• West Cobb Diner – 3451 Ernest W Barrett Pkwy NW, Marietta, GA
We are a multi-generational household, so finding something that appeals to young and old is important. The West Cobb Diner fits that to perfection. The traditional diner menu has a Meat and 2 veggies, or just veggies, or a plethora of combinations of salads and sandwiches, to satisfy everyone.
An important thing to consider when considering a take out option is preparation and packaging, and here is where West Cobb Diner shines. They take great care to make sure the saucier items are packaged as not to leak on to the other items in the box. The cornbread muffins are always delivered in tact. The staff does a wonderful job of keeping all things together, and the order complete! Order ahead and you’ll easily jump to the front of the waiting dine in crowd to grab and go! As a side note their Broccoli casserole is worth the calories it costs!
• Ceilo Blue Mexican Grill & Cantina – 3805 Dallas Hwy Suite 101 Marietta, GA 30064
This one we discovered because of a family gathering and the need for a small catered meal. You of course can order a la carte and get all of the usual Mexican style dishes, but our story started with a Rehearsal Dinner, needing options for Vegan, and Carnivores. We ordered the Texas Fajita’s and Veggie Fajita’s. This comes with a side tray of Rice and another of refried Beans and enough sour cream, pico de gallo, cheese dip and salsa of course Chips. It is so good. There are plenty of wraps, but they are sometimes a little sticky, so make sure you open them as soon as you get home.
Each tray is plenty for a small army so we are never disappointed with no leftovers!
• Okinawa Hibachi & Sushi – 3718 Dallas Hwy, Marietta, GA 30064
The final offering in the Best of West Cobb Take Out category is another family favorite.
Who doesn’t love sushi? Well, if you had asked me that question about 6 years ago I probably would have raised my hand quickly and very high. I’m still not a fan of some of the more exotic options, but I have a wonderful list of shrimp, crab, and salmon options that are my go to order.
Okinawa does offer traditional Hibachi and other dishes for folks who just don’t like the sushi.
My favorite is the Choose 2 roll Dinner and my roll choice is usually the Crispy Crab, which is Tempura crab roll topped with Japanese BBQ & Aioli sauce, along with a Marietta Roll which is Shrimp tempura & spicy tuna topped with Masago (edible fish eggs – don’t knock it until you’ve tried it).
If you are afraid to try the sushi, I LOVE their vegetable fried rice!
With take out, they are super careful with the packaging and generous with the extra sauces.
Don’t forget your clear soup which is my favorite, especially on a cold winter evening.
